Over the past 5 years a series of ground-breaking books have been published on the rise of mental illness and depression in the western world. These books all have something in common. They shine a light on the mental health industry and its links to the pharmaceutical industry, as well as describing the expansion of the list of mental health disorders and syndromes, the increasing medicalisation of normal life, and the sky-rocketing use of antidepressants, none of which work as claimed by the pharmaceutical companies who manufacture the drugs and the doctors who write the prescriptions for them. The books listed below paint a depressing picture of the forces at work behind this vast deceit.
